You may be under the impression that the Desk Appearance Ticket is not that big of a deal, perhaps something like a Traffic Ticket. This however is not the case; a Desk Appearance Ticket (DAT) is of significant legal consequence and needs to be addressed. Meeting with a Nassau County Criminal Lawyer would be extremely helpful; as they can explain where you stand legally, and help you devise a course of action to deal with the problem. Depending on where you received your citation, these tickets are also known as a white ticket, or sometimes a pink summons ticket. If you have received a DAT, you are now facing what can be a criminal charge against you. This matter has the possibility of going to trial, and even end in a criminal record for you. The Nassau County Criminal Court has certain rules and procedures that need to respected and followed. If you are facing this problem, you need to call a Nassau County Criminal Attorney familiar with desk appearance tickets as soon as possible. When you call our office, we will provide you with a free consultation and guidance. Where ever you are in NY, we have an office near you, including Nassau County, Suffolk County and Manhattan.

Most individuals who receive a DAT have no prior record, and are being cited for a lower level crime. Someone cited for Marijuana Possession (Drug Crime) would likely be issued a DAT by police. If you were cited for possessing a small weapon such as a switch blade knife you would commonly be issued a DAT (legally called Criminal Possession of a Weapon). Or perhaps you were apprehended shoplifting, or were involved with a small theft (Petit Larceny). These types of tickets are usually for a "violation", or a misdemeanor offense. Occasionally the police will issue a white ticket for a felony (Class D and/or E). Be aware that a felony is punishable by over a year of incarceration. If you were cited for a misdemeanor charge, it can carry the possibility of one year or less in jail.

There are crimes that may be considered more serious in nature, or deal with public safety that would rarely receive a DAT. A Domestic Violence/abuse matter would probably not receive a white ticket, as would also be the case with a Sex Crime. Driving with a blood alcohol of .o8 or higher DWI would generally be precluded from receiving a DAT citation. Regardless of the underlying charge against you, it is important to contact a Nassau County Criminal Lawyer to ensure that your legal rights are protected.

Had you not received a Desk Appearance Ticket, you would have been taken into custody to await your Arraignment. This could have meant 24 hours or more in a holding cell/jail. The charges are no less serious because you were not taken to jail however. You have an obligation to appear for your hearing and state your plea to the judge. The judge has the option of issuing an arrest warrant for you should you not appear. This charge against should be taken seriously as it can end in a criminal conviction for you. Client Reviews
My wife and I met under some unconventional circumstances. After I had some legal problems, Mr Bilkis and his firm continually got me out of trouble. I then had his firm represented my wife and he got her out of trouble! We are still married and got our ways straightened away. We both can't thank him enough for saving our lives and our families! J.P.
I contacted Stephen Bilkis' office for an issue regarding a family member and I could not be happier with the results. I have recommended the firm to friends and family, all of whom were also ecstatic with Mr. Bilkis and all members of his staff. P.R.
I was in need of legal assistance for a very sensitive matter for a family member. I contacted the law offices of Stephen Bilkis & Associates, PLLC and was met with staff whose demeanor was supportive, compassionate and professional. The lawyer handling our case had many years of experience and treated us as if we were his own family. Our experience was so good, and we became so close to all of the staff and all of the attorneys who assisted us, that we consider them our extended family and continue to send them our home baked gifts for the holidays. P.A.K.
I hired Stephen Bilkis and Associates to represent me on a legal matter a few months ago and am grateful for their swift action and resolution on my behalf. I was impressed with their professionalism and would recommend them to friends and family in a heartbeat. M.B.
