Long Island Criminal Court

Having recently experienced an arrest or receiving a Desk Appearance Ticket (DAT) is not only a stressful experience, but brings up a lot of new questions and concerns regarding the Criminal Court process. The Long Island Criminal Courts handle a wide array of cases. Long Island consists of two Counties and each has jurisdiction over matters that happen with in its borders These two counties are Nassau County Criminal Court and the Suffolk County Criminal Court. The types of cases the preside over can range from warrant returns, felonies such as Grand Larceny to misdemeanors such as driving under the influence violations DWI or DWAI. With a misdemeanor, both Long Island Criminal Courts have jurisdiction over the matter from the initial Arraignment to the conclusion of the case. For a felony, the criminal court will handle the case up to indictment, after that the case will be transferred to the County Court. First District Criminal Court is located in the Cohalan Court Complex. The address is 400 Carleton Avenue, Central Islip, NY 11722.

Arraignments are held every day of the year, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Directions: The court is one block north of Fulton Avenue. One Main Street, Southern State, Northern State or Meadowbrook Parkways to Hempstead.

Glen Cove City Court: City Courts handle all Penal Law and City Code Misdemeanors and minor offenses. Also can handle arraignments for felonies.
